Is the life coach school a pyramid scheme?

By Netbooks Review

Life coaching is a great idea, except for the part where more than 99% of the people who do it end up worse off financially.

That’s probably why there’s a lot of talk about The Life Coach School.

If you’re a newbie looking for a way to start a career as a life coach, and are wondering whether this MLM is a pyramid scheme or not, read on.

I’ve gone through hundreds of MLM companies and compiled the best ones out there.

Is Brooke Castillo’s Life Coach School among them? Or is it a complete scam?

Let’s find out

Life Coach School Review – An Overview

life coach school overview

What’s the Life Coach School?

Life Coach School is the premier training ground for aspiring life coaches. It’s where you learn how to build a life coaching business or practice, and train others to be effective coaches.

They’re all about teaching you how to harness the power of your own story in order to guide others towards their own transformations.

Who is Brooke Castillo?

She’s the brain behind the Life Coach School.

Now, you may be thinking that even if the field of self-development is filled with people who claim they can help others improve, many of them have little education.

But few have the credentials that Brooke Castillo has.

After finishing her Ph.D. in Psychology, she worked at a treatment center for adolescents
and really enjoyed the work. They helped girls and young women struggling with various mental health issues: eating disorders, depression… the whole gamut.

But something was missing. Brooke wanted to help people take their life to the next level, but as a psychologist she couldn’t do it because all she did was work with mental illness.

So she started looking for alternatives and found the personal development industry. And it seems she had talent.

Brooke Castillo stood as a visionary who envisioned a place for life coaches to share their experience and learn from each other. She got a Masters to become a Certified Weight and Life Coach, and started building a school that would become the Harvard of life coach schools. And in 2007, she launched The Life Coach School.

What does Life Coach School offer?

The school offers two different programs:

  • Online Life Coach Certification
  • Self Coaching Scholars

Depending on which course you take, this program can last from 3 to 6 months. It also depends on the qualifications you achieve, but overall it won’t exceed 6 months.

In this article though, I’m going to talk exclusively about what the Online Life Coach Certification program offers, because it’s the only one that enables you to work in the industry and join its always-open vacancies for life coaches.

Let’s break it down.

Online Life Coach Certification – Course Curriculum

Here you have a list of the key points in the course:

  • Model Mastery

It all starts with taking stock of the situation. They break down the model as follows:

Circumstances + Thoughts + Feelings = Actions + Results.

Pretty straightforward, right? What you have to do is sit down with your clients and take a good look at how these five elements are working in their lives. As soon as you can identify a clear path, it’s a simple matter of pointing your client in the right direction and seeing how they progress.

  • Emotional Management

We tend to take our problems out on the people we’re closest to. In this section, you’ll learn about ways you can take control of your feelings and help your clients do the same.

  • The Relationship Manual

The Relationship Manual is a step-by-step plan for developing new relationships according to the Life Coach School. It will help you recognize unhealthy patterns in the early stages of relationships and help you fix them.

  • Cultivation of Results and Goals

In this section, you’ll learn how to help your clients set goals and then how to help them achieve those goals by establishing new behavior patterns

  • Life Coach School’s Belief System Navigation

Life Coach School’s Belief System Navigation aims to help you instill new beliefs in your clients as quickly as possible, helping them reach success.

  • Focusing Techniques

At this stage, you’ll be learning how to bring your clients back to the present moment. This section is all about teaching how you can help them stop thinking about the past, and start focusing on what they can do now to work towards their future.

  • Self-Love Training

In this section, you will be able to learn how to teach those feel-good techniques that can help those in therapy learn to love themselves and others.

  • Eating & Drinking Disorders

In this part of the course, they’ll cover in-depth all the obstacles your clients (especially those with depression) are facing -overeating, alcoholism, drug addiction, etc.

  • Entrepreneurship Training

Finally, you’ll get some useful resources and a checklist that will guide you from your initial idea to building a profitable and sustainable coaching business in the long term.

They teach you everything you need to know about starting a business online, from how to decide your niche and create a brand -however, most students end up working for Brook.

What is the cost of the Life Coach School?

The cost of the Life Coach School is $21,000. That’s a lot of money for what you get from it, right? Most of the information is available online for free, so I’m sure there are more profitable ways to spend that money.

Now, that’s the price for the Online Life Coach Certification program. If you want to go for their Self Coaching Scholars, then that’s $297/month.

Positives and Negatives

  • Brooke Castillo is a certified life coach and self-made entrepreneur who’s made some real money out of this business model.
  • You’ll learn a lot of skills that will not only help you provide value to your clients, but also progress in your personal development.
  • Once the course is finished, you will discover that they always have new vacancies for their students
  • Life Coach School is not a pyramid scheme

  • The price is far from cheap ($21,000)
  • This course isn’t for everyone -you’ll have to be in touch with people on a daily basis, so if you don’t like the idea of a customer-faced job, this isn’t for you.

Now, What’s a pyramid scheme?

Sorry to start this off with a sad note, but I want to make it clear that pyramid schemes are illegal.

To put it simply, a pyramid scheme is like a normal scam, only with the cash flowing up instead of down. And they are illegal in the United States and most other countries because they are a form of gambling that relies on continually recruiting new investors in order to pay earlier investors.

These schemes can be very hard to detect. The hallmark of these schemes is the promise of sky-high returns in a short period of time for doing nothing other than handing over your money and getting others to do the same.

One variation involves offering returns in exchange for buying packages of products, such as vitamins or clothing. The more you recruit, the more you can sell, and the faster you make your money back—and when you get enough people involved, it seems like it could actually be true.

But it’s not.

So, Is the Life Coach School a pyramid scheme?

The answer is no. Life Coach School isn’t a pyramid scheme. There is no “head coach” sitting at the top and sending down assignments for coaches below her to do.

If you want to see a pyramid scheme, there are plenty to look at online: Herbalife, World Ventures, etc. But Life Coach School isn’t one of them.

Takeaway: Is Life Coach School Worth Joining?

Is Life Coach School worth it? If you want to be a life coach, then I guess yes. However, I’m not convinced that the price tag of $21,000 is worth it. For that kind of money, you can easily earn 6-figures online with lead generation.

Before going all in the Life Coach School, I’d like to invite you to check out this training instead. It’s an all-inclusive program with tons of value inside.

Anyway, let me know what you think about Brooke’s coaching school. If you happen to have been through the program, let us all know your experience!
